Herbert H. “Herb” Mclaughlin

Herbert H. “Herb” McLaughlin of South Weymouth, died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Essex Pavillion Skilled Nursing Facilities in Hyannis.  He was 87 years old.

 Herb was born September 29, 1925, a son of the late John M. and Kathleen (McCormack) McLaughlin.  He was predeceased by his beloved wife Claire C. (Yates) McLaughlin.  Herb was the devoted father of Susan M. McMullin and her husband Eric, of Yarmouth, James M. McLaughlin of Sandwich, Kathleen L. McLaughlin of Austin, TX and Lisa A. Frieh and her husband Gene, of Marstons Mills.  Loving “Grampa” of Marabeth Archer, Daniel, Andrew and Catherine McLaughlin and of Nolan, Patrick, Jason and Brian Frieh.  Great-Grampa of Evan and Molly Archer and the late Michael Rodriguez.  Beloved brother of Ethel Stanewick of Roslindale, and the late Francis L. and John M. McLaughlin Jr.

Herb joined the Navy in December, 1942.  A WWII Veteran, he was stationed in the Admiralty Islands in the South Pacific.  He was recalled to the Navy Flight Training Program in May, 1945 and was discharged as a Naval Aviator Cadet in October, 1945. Herb received a BS from Boston College, Intown Campus in 1956.  He was employed as a Liability Examiner by Kemper National Insurance Company for 37 years, before retiring in 1992. He was a former member of the Association of New England High School Football Officials and served as a High School Football official from 1966-1986. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church in South Weymouth. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hosp.)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM.
