Henry J. Buckley (“Bucky”)

Henry J. Buckley (“Bucky”), of Kingston and formerly of Quincy, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019. He was 82.

Born in Boston, he was raised in Roxbury and Dorchester and was the son of the late Cornelius F. and Doris A. (Delaney) Buckley. After high school, Henry enlisted in the United States Marines Corps. and proudly served his country during the Korean War.  Following his honorable discharge, for a short time, he tried his hand at race car driving but soon after Henry started his own roofing company known as Budget Roofing, Inc. where had a long, prosperous career.

In his spare time, Henry loved watching and attending as many NASCAR races as he could.  He enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren camping up in New Hampshire each summer for as long as they can remember.  Eventually Henry bought the motorcycle of his dreams and became a long standing member of the United Bikers of Maine.  He was then able to fulfill his long-time dream of riding his bike in Daytona, FL during bike week, a moment he was very proud of.  Henry was a very active member of the American Legion Giovanni Post in Kingston where you could count on him to always be there helping his follow veterans . As a dedicated Korean War Veteran, he faithfully marched each year in the town’s Veteran’s Day Parade. Henry loved to be with people and always enjoyed a get together especially with his long time farm family friends who meant the world to him but Henry was most happy when he was able to spent time with his grandchildren.  Henry was known to help anyone with anything, no matter how big or small, he was always there, as a father, a papa and for his friends. His kindness towards others and his dedication to his country will never be forgotten.

Henry was the loving husband of the late Eileen K. (Bennett) Buckley and the devoted father of Jean Fries and her husband Ron of Kingston, the late James Buckley of Quincy, Richard MacTaggart and his wife Teri of Enfield, CT, the late Scott MacTaggart of Quincy, Doreen McDonnell and her husband Mark, Colleen Buckley, Joseph Buckley, all of Hull and Charles Patch from Quincy. He was the loving Papa of 14 and is also survived by many nieces, nephews and all of his farm family and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his siblings, John Buckley, Connie Tetler,

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, April 2nd from 9 through 10 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Henry may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

A celebration of Henry’s life will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the Hilltop Athletic Club, 65 Pottle Street, Kingston, MA from 1:00pm to 5;00pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend where all are welcome to share their “Oh Henry!” or “Oh Papa!” stories.
