Helene Lofgren

Helene Lofgren (Hawrilenko) of Hingham, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 6, 2022.  She was 79 years old.

She was born to Mary (Kondratiuk) and Jacob Hawrilenko in Chelsea, MA.  It was there that she grew up.  She attended and graduated from the Boston Latin School.  After high school, Helene earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from Boston University.  She worked her first job in Human Resources at the United Nations in New York, then United Fruit Company, Digital Equipment Corporation and finally finishing her distinguished career working for the State of Massachusetts.

Helene was one of the first residents at Linden Ponds in Hingham and was very involved.  She often spoke fondly of her “Linden Ponds family” because of how many wonderful friendships she made there.  It was there that she met her late husband, Dr. Robert “Bob” Lofgren.  In her spare time, she loved to travel the world with Bob, cook for her friends and family and feed the birds.  She will be fondly remembered for always lending a helping hand, and for her love of people.

Beloved wife of the late Dr. Robert “Bob” Lofgren.  Loving sister to Alla Foss of Hingham and her late husband James Foss, Jr., and Leonard Hawrilenko and his wife Alice of FL.  Cherished aunt of Matthew Havril and his wife Emily, James Foss and his wife Kimberly, and Alexandra Cavanaugh and her husband Sean.  Great aunt of Jacob Foss and his wife Sarah, Casey Cavanaugh and Joseph Cavanaugh.  Also survived by her late husband, Bob’s children: Susan, Jean and Peter, and their extended families.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday, February 11, from 5-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, February 12, at 10 AM in Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, Hingham. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
