Helen F. Smith

Helen F. Smith, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, she was 100 years old. Born and raised in Dorchester to Eugene and Helen Frances (Kerrigan) Ward. After Marriage, Houghs Neck became her home town.

Our mom, grandmother, great grandmother was always there for each of us, by our side with her Love, Wisdom and Strength through all life’s ups and downs.

Family was everything to her. She was the glue that kept her family close, making sure every one was together on holiday gatherings, ensuring that these moments were filled with love and togetherness.

She was always in style and liked to keep up with the times. She enjoyed “yard sailing”. Her passion for shopping was not just about the search for a bargain but specifically finding that little something to surprise one of us.

The loss of her beloved husband of 75 years, Alfred, in 2015 was a profound sadness for Helen, yet she continued to embody strength and resilience.

Throughout her life, Helen embraced a variety of roles with vigor and dedication. She served her community for many years at the Quincy Juvenile Court as a Judge’s assistant, bringing compassion and understanding to those in need.

A conversationalist at heart, Helen loved to chat on the phone, connecting with friends and family, sharing stories, and offering words of encouragement and she never turned down an opportunity for a great debate on politics.

She took immense pride in her entire family, celebrating every achievement and offering support through every challenge. Her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Beloved wife of 75 years to the late Alfred A. Smith. Devoted mother of Karen Dowell of North Weymouth, Tracey Poutre of Lakeville and the late Ronald Smith. Sister to Jean McCaffrey. Mother-in-law to Marjorie Smith of Douglas. Cherished grandmother of Kimberly Dodd, Robb Dowell, Bradley Smith, and the late David and Ricky Smith. Great-grandmother of Kaleigh, McKenzie and Zachary. Loving Aunt to nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, in Helen’s memory, surprise someone by paying for their meal in a drive-through or restaurant, spreading joy and creating a ripple effect of kindness or brighten someone's day with a genuine compliment and acknowledge the positive qualities you see in others and share the love.

The family will have a private service.
