Flanders, Helen G. (Leahy) of Hingham, formerly of Quincy, January 24, 2005. Wife of the late Albert J. Flanders. Loving mother of Maryellen & her husband Michael McCarthy of Hingham, Helen Flanders of Holbrook, Anne F. & her husband John Donovan of North Falmouth, Christine & her husband Eric Koenig of Novato, CA, and the late Aelreda & her husband Neil Dashkoff. Loving “Grandma” of Christine , Michael, Jennifer, Brian, Peter, Jonathan, Matthew, Katherine, Kevin, & Allison. Loving “Great Grandma” of William & Casey. Sister of James Leahy of Wakefield, Margaret Cannon of Malden, and the late Sister Mary Aelreda, Leo Leahy, Gertrude Andrew, Mary Patrie, Ruth Covino, & Jean Joyce. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church, Wollaston at 10 AM. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 PM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne on Monday. A registered nurse, she graduated in 1937 from Long Island Hospital. She met Al while working at Long Island Hospital and they were married in 1945.They resided in Dorchester for 10 years where she gave birth to five daughters.After moving to Quincy, Helen was a communicant of St. Ann’s Parish. Her family and her parish community were the focus of her interests and social life. She belonged to the Women’s Club and a bowling league. She was employed by the City of Boston at The Mattapan Chronic Disease Hospital until her retirement in 1975. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters and brothers playing cards, bowling and celebrating holidays. Following her retirement she spent her summers in Falmouth, MA and enjoyed bingo and travelling. Helen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 1992 and lived the last 5 years at The Harbor House Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Hingham. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Alzheimers Association, MA Chapter, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.
