Helen Collins Tobin

Tobin, Helen Collins, 83, a long-time resident of Squantum, Massachusetts died in West Bridgewater on December 27, 2004. She was born February 27, 1921 in Boston to Ellen (Berrigan) and John Collins. Beloved wife of the late Richard Tobin. Loving mother of Katherine Tobin and her husband Evan Wallach of Hartsdale, NY and Alice Zaff and her husband Alan of N. Easton. Sister of Richard Morrissey of Quincy, Arthur Morrissey of Andover, John Collins of West Newbury and the late Paul Morrissey. Also survived by numerous accomplished and loving extended family. Raised in North Quincy, she was a graduate of North Quincy High School and Burdett Business College. During World War II she worked as Executive Secretary for the Base Commander at Squantum Naval Air Station. She married LTJG. Richard Tobin, a naval aviator, at Star of the Sea Church in Squantum in October 1949. They had two daughters. Helen was a Navy wife for 14 years and created homes for her family from Maine and Virginia to New York, Kansas, California and Japan. When her husband died in 1965, she went back to work as an Executive Secretary at the University of California, Santa Cruz, while raising her young daughters. In 1968, she returned to Quincy where she worked for 16 years as a Media Clerk in the library of her old high school. She was active in church groups and community service throughout her life, including teaching Sunday school for 20 years at Star of the Sea Church and leading her daughter’s Brownie troop. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St. , WOLLASTON Friday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church, Wollaston at 10 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
