Mercadante, Hazel V. (Clendening) of Abington, formerly of North Quincy and Florida, died June 15, 2009. Beloved wife of 63 years to Ralph J. Mercadante of Abington. Devoted mother of Geraldine and her husband Robert Culver of Milton, Christine and her husband Gerard Walsh of Abington and his son Gerard Jr. of Norwell. Loving sister of Ethel Cannon, Bertha Stevens, Mary Robinson, Muriel Clendening, Marion Clendening and Roy Clendening all of Plant City and the late Marie Cheney, Emmett, Woodrow, Reuben and Bert Clendening. Cherished grandmother of Leah Culver of NYC. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Hazel grew up in Plant City, Florida and lived in North Quincy for over 40 years before recently moving to Abington. While her husband’s family ran the Fruit Basket in Norfolk Downs North Quincy she worked at Gillette, retiring in 1979. She enjoyed visiting her large extended family and spent winters visiting in Florida. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughter. Sitting around a dinner table surrounded by her loved ones is when she was happiest. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY, Friday at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 4- 8 PM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Donations in memory of Hazel Mercadante may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute- Center for Sarcoma and Bone Oncology, Development Office, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline MA 02445, Attn: Karen Sveda.
