Gregory F. Desmond of Quincy, died July 16, 2016 surrounded by the family he cherished. Beloved husband of 44 years to Beverly (McClain) Desmond of Quincy. Father of Gregory F. Desmond, Jr. of Quincy. Step-Father of Charles W. Freeman of Ellsworth, ME, Mary F. Connors of Robertsdale, AL, Deborah L. Steele of Quincy, Jean M. Michon of Robertsdale, AL, James W. Freeman of Peabody and Jack K. Freeman. Brother of his twin sister Joan Dowgos of Billerica, Louise Toland of NJ, Robert Desmond of Dedham, Thomas Desmond of Quincy and the late Frank Desmond and Mary Mosey. Gregory is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A proud Korean War Navy Veteran. Gregory worked at Carney Hospital for many years before his retirement. An avid Red Sox fan, he also truly enjoyed taking care of his neighbors, he showed this by mowing their lawns in the summer and shoveling snow in the winters. He was a devoted family man, this was demonstrated when he donated a kidney to his brother. He has a special place in his heart for children and he would often be found on the floor playing with his numerous grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to have had him in their lives.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:15 am prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 am.
Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gregory may be made to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108.
