Gloria Curran Jantzen

Gloria Curran Jantzen of Hingham died peacefully on August 20, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late William E.D. Jantzen, Sr. Devoted mother of Dr. Ellen C. Jantzen and her husband Dr. Don Koepsell of Phoenixville, PA; Dr. William E.D. Jantzen, Jr and his wife Pamela of Hingham; Katherine Jantzen Glazier and her husband Bill of Palo Alto, CA; Thomas C. Jantzen of Hingham; and Erik J. Jantzen of Leawood, KS. Cherished “Grammie” of two granddaughters and eight grandsons. Gloria was born in Asbury Park, NJ and graduated from Freehold High School. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1947 with an A.B. degree in zoology. Later she earned a postgraduate degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in the then nascent field of physical therapy. During World War Two, she worked as a civilian for the Army Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth, NJ. Her professional career as a registered physical therapist began with the rehabilitation of severely wounded war veterans. She then specialized in the physical therapy of handicapped children at the A. Harry Moore School, and later treated numerous polio patients. Gloria then went on to specialize in adult orthopedic rehabilitation. Gloria was active in politics on both a local and national level and was Chairman of the Hingham Republican Town Committee. She was also a longtime supporter of Hingham Public Schools and served on the town advisory committee and the Hingham School Committee. She was a member of the Doric Dames Society and had a life long interest in American furniture, decorative arts and Greek & Roman history. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne, Friday at 1:15 PM. Donations in memory of Gloria may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
