Glenn R. Galusha, of Weymouth, passed away on September 3, 2023, at the age of 78.
Born in Allentown, PA, Glenn was the beloved only son to the late Richard and Ruth (Burrows) Galusha. He traveled to Massachusetts to pursue higher education at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA and then to Pepperdine University in California, where he began his master’s degree in psychology. Duty then called, and he left to serve his country at Fort Sill, Oklahoma during the Vietnam War. Returning from service, Glenn settled in Massachusetts, where he met his beloved wife, Bette. They were married for 34 years and raised three children together. Glenn worked as a state daycare licensor for 30 years until his retirement in 2003. Glenn devoted his long career to ensuring the well-being of children, and after retiring he developed and taught college courses for those entering the childcare profession.
Glenn was someone who lived life fully, remaining active and engaged in the various communities he called home. After raising their children in North Dighton, Glenn and Bette retired to their dream home in Bourne, where they created many cherished memories. After his wife’s untimely passing, he moved to Weymouth to be closer to family. Here, he used his loss to help others, engaging as a member in the New Beginnings support group. Glenn always took the road less traveled and was always up for an adventure. He never met a stranger, and never tired of sharing stories and advice. He loved his Boston sports teams and good music. He was always positive, present and up for a good time. He had a big voice, but a bigger heart. He cared deeply for all in his life, but none more than his family. He loved his children and grandchildren completely, and as their “#1 Pa” he was ever present in each of their lives, attending every sporting event, concert and graduation. The keeper of marshmallows at the campfire, the teller of ghost stories, the pitcher for wiffle ball, the partner for board games and the chauffeur to countless events, he was a devoted father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed and his memory treasured forever.
Predeceased by his loving wife, Bette L. (Medeiros) Galusha. Cherished father to Justin Galusha and wife Melinda, of Weymouth, Vicki Johnson and husband Thomas, of Berkley, and Kimberly Rishi and husband Arthur, of Ipswich. Pa to Michael Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Alexander Rishi, Nicholas Rishi, Jonathan Rishi, Isabella Galusha, Desmond Galusha, and Finn Galusha.
Glenn will be laid to rest in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne next to his wife Bette in a private ceremony.
There will be a Celebration of Life to remember Glenn on 11/10 from 6-9 at Barrel House Z in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
