Giovanni Caparrotta

Caparrotta, Giovanni, a long time resident of Hull, died October 9, 2014 at the age of 95, after a brief illness.

Mr. Caparrotta was born and raised in Calabria, Italy, where he became a barber as a young teen.  At the age of 18, he voluntered in the Italian Air Force and served his country for six years during World War II.  He moved to the U.S. in 1969 and became a resident of Hull.  After obtaining a Master Barber License, he worked many years at Gino’s Barbershop in Quincy and later at Pat’s Barbershop in Cohasset. Mr. Caparrotta was an avid reader. He liked to keep up with current events, politics and news, until the end.  He also enjoyed walking, gardening and crossword puzzles. Mr. Caparrotta was a self taught, well accomplished guitar and mandolin player.  He loved playing with and for his family and friends.  During retirement he enjoyed traveling to Italy and spending the summers at his house in Calabria.  Mr. Caparrotta was a life long devout Catholic, who was especially proud of becoming a member of St. Francis of Paola Third Order. While travelling to Italy, he often went on pilgrimages to the Puglia Region to visit the birthplace of Padre Pio, to whom he was very devouted.  He lived his life by the teachings of St. Francis of Paola, with particular emphases to live a simple life and to be charitable to the needy.  His proudest accomplishment was in helping raise his children and instilling a strong work ethic, family values, love, faith and honesty and a good education.  He was well known as an old school true gentleman and an impeccable dresser.

Mr. Capparrotta was pre-deceased by all his siblings; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.  He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lina (Marano) Caparrotta of Hull; their children, Lino Caparrotta and his wife Giuliana of Italy, Marisa Caparrotta of Italy, Ernesto Caparrotta and his finace Janet Vinton of Hull, Gianfranco Caparrotta and his wife Rossana of Hull, Maurizio Caparrotta of Hull as well as many loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
