Gilda Owens

Owens, Gilda (David), long time resident of Hingham, MA, passed away peacefully at the Allerton House in Weymouth, MA, on May 1, 2013. 

She was born in Northfield, VT, on January 20, 1926.  She was the daughter of the late Theresa and Louis David.  She was predeceased by her husband, John Owens and three brothers Lynn, Kendon and Verdon David.  She leaves two sisters, Gloria Gimartino of Hartford, CT and Lorette Flower of Enfield, CT.  She also leaves her brother Jack David and his wife Patricia of Southington, CT and a sister in law, Sandra Owens of Hingham, MA.  She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and a longtime friend Deidre Kulevich. 

Gilda attended Northfield High School in Vermont.  She went on to work as an Administrative Secretary in a Boston Law Firm and also for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years.  After her years working she became a member of the Retired Massachusetts State Employee Association.  She was also a member of the Church of the Resurrection.  Mostly, Gilda enjoyed spending time with her husband and entertaining relatives in their home.  They enjoyed many years traveling together on various trips.  She was a very independent person that wanted to do things her own way, and loved to look her best at all times.  Her favorite past time was reading her mother’s poetry.  Her cat Peaches was also a true joy in her life.  Gilda’s family would like to thank the Allerton House and the VNA Hospice Nurses of Norwell for taking such wonderful care of her. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday morning from 11am to 12 noon in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 12 noon.  Burial in High Street Cemetery, Hingham.  Donations in memory of Gilda may be made to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
