Gilbert Bayne Arbuckle

Gilbert Bayne Arbuckle of Quincy, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021.  He was 91.

He was born to George Washington Arbuckle and Mary Pheney Arbuckle, both attorneys.  He was a lifelong resident of Quincy, growing up on 118 Butler Road and later living much of his life there after moving back from Long Island, NY.  After graduating from Thayer Academy in 1948, Gilbert attended Holy Cross in Worcester and earned his degree in 1952.  In 1962 he earned his Ph.D. at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC.

After college, he became a writer and published “St. Thomas and the Doctrine of Essence” in Studies in Philosophy and the History of Philosophy in 1963.  In 1997 he received a patent for a “method and system for disseminating obituaries and administering a depository for achieving this”.  Later, he became a writer for the Quincy Patriot Ledger.  Gilbert was a man of wide-ranging interests and was always intellectually curious.

He is survived by his younger sister Kathleen Arbuckle Logan-Prince of Weston and three nephews: Christian Arbuckle Born of South Berwick, ME; George Walter Born of Concord, NH; and Joshua Gilbert Logan of Weston, MA.  He is predeceased by his older sister, Virginia Arbuckle (Born) Spencer.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM, on Friday, November 5, 2021 at St. John’s Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, MA 02169. Burial at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery to follow.
