Gervaise L. Haley

Haley, Gervaise L. (Long) of Weymouth and Hull, passed away on August 11th surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous health battle.

Gervaise was born October 6, 1943 in Dorchester and grew up in Newton.  She spent summers in Hull, where she met Edward, the love of her life and husband of 50 years.  After marrying, they settled in Hull where they raised their four beautiful children.

Gervaise was the 3rd oldest of 10 children contributing to her nurturing qualities and giving nature.  As a teen, Gervaise found great joy performing with the Belles of St. Mary’s drill team in Hull where, as Captain, she led them to a National Championship in 1962.  Her calling as a registered nurse specializing in Alzheimer’s Disease brought her many years of happiness, and her compassion was shown to everyone she touched.  She was granted the honor of being asked to serve as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University.  Gervaise was also a very talented artist.  Her most abundant joy was found spending precious time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Gervaise was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Beloved wife of Edward J. Haley of Hull then Weymouth, loving mother of E.J. Haley and his wife Darlene of Hanson, John Haley and his wife Cyndi of Weymouth, Gervaise Calos and her husband Chris of Marshfield, and Arianne Getz and her husband Jason of Weymouth. Daughter of the late John A. Long and Gervaise K. Long.  Devoted sister of William P. Long, Francis X. Long, Robert J. Long, Susanne McInerney, Valerie Cooper, Mary-Jeanne Kuehn, Lynn Mahoney, Jacquelynne Starrak, and Ginny Martins. Cherished Nannie to Matthew, Shauna, Brendan, Nick, Jess, Jack, Thomas, Hannah, Gervaise “Jessi”, Devon, Johnny, and Avery.  Admired Sister-in-Law to many, and much loved Aunt to over 40 nieces & nephews.
