Gertrude S. Reade

Reade, Gertrude S. “Trudy” (Nees) of Quincy, Ma., died April 29, 2020.  Trudy was born in Germany.  The beloved daughter of Philipp and Margarite Nees of Russelsheim, Germany.  Loving sister of Bernd and the late Ernst Nees, both of Germany.  The beloved mother of Muriel Long and her husband Robert of Norwell, Patricia Sprague of Hanover, Daniel McLaughlin and his wife Freda of Austin, TX, and Rita Senier-Coletti and Robert from Norfolk.  The loving Oma of Pamela, Whitney, Bobby, Brian, Audra, John, Alisha, Shaylyn, Siobhan, and Patrick.  The beloved great-grandmother of Maddison, Bronwyn, Natalie, Rowan,  Bennett, Baker, Beckett and Barrett.

Trudy worked over 30 years as a server at Anthony’s Pier 4 in Boston.  After the restaurant closed, she worked at Jimmy’s Harborside.  Her final job was for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Revenue’s Finance Bureau where she quickly worked her way up to Director.  Trudy excelled at anything she tried.  She has a passion for art, and was a fabulous painter.  She also loved to knit, needlepoint and sew.  Every Christmas family and friends who were lucky – received her famous cookies “just because”.  She also loved to cook and made the BEST German potato salad, a recipe she later shared with family. Trudy loved gardening and yard work.  She also loved the summer and always sported a beautiful tan.  Trudy was very active and loved to participate in any family event.  And if there was music, she would be the first and the last person on the dance floor.

In consideration of current events and keeping in mind our number one priority of protecting our families and our community, Trudy’s services are private.

Normally, the funeral is an opportunity for the community to gather in support of one another. Although we cannot gather together with Trudy’s family at this time, friends may still offer their support by sharing a special memory or message by clicking the link above.
