Gertrude M. “Trudy” (McCarthy) Renda, of Quincy, and formerly of South Boston, died peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Milton. She was 84.
Born in Boston, she was raised in South Boston and was the daughter of the late Dennis J. and Ruth (Paulsen) McCarthy. She attended local schools and graduated from South Boston High School with the Class of 1952. Later in life, after her daughter completed primary school. Trudy decided to continue her education at Quincy College, where she earned an associates degree in business administration.
Trudy worked for the Archdiocese of Boston, as the parish secretary for St. Ambrose Church in Dorchester. She worked at St. Ambrose for over thirty years and retired in August of 2019.
Trudy was a quiet person who enjoyed spending time at home with her family. In her free time, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading and going to concerts with her daughter.
Trudy was a woman of faith and lived her life in accordance with the virtues of faith, hope and love. She was a strong and independent person. Trudy raised her daughter with love and devotion. Trudy’s family was very important to her. She was close with her siblings, and her nieces were always a large part of her life.
Trudy’s life lessons and example are part of her legacy that continue through her family. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.
Trudy was the beloved wife of the late S. Leonard “Sonny” Renda, who died in 2013. The two married on May 30, 1956 and together they shared 57 years of loving marriage. She was the devoted mother of Elizabeth R. Renda of Quincy and the dear sister of Margaret L. Donato and her husband Raoul of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by two loving nieces, great grandnieces and great grandnephews. Trudy was preceded in death by her brother Dennis J. McCarthy Jr.
Trudy will be interred privately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
