Gertrude L. Connolly

Connolly, Gertrude L. (Thompson) of Quincy, died March 27, 2017 surrounded by family following a brief illness. She was 89.

The youngest child of the late William and Julia (Larkin) Thompson of Charlestown, Gertrude became the closest of friends with her siblings: Marion Severie, William, Muriel, Joseph, Robert, Monica, and Frederick Thompson.  After attending Girls’ Latin School, she worked as a long-distance operator with New England Telephone Company.  In 1948, Gertrude married William G. Connolly. Mrs. Connolly was a homemaker while her husband worked for Boston Gas Company. After raising their family, they moved to Quincy where she became an award-winning leasing consultant with Corcoran Management Company.

Gertrude enjoyed travel to far off destinations and Sunday drives closer to home.  She was an avid reader, trivia champion, PBS enthusiast, talk radio listener, crossword ace, and New England football fan. A patriotic and generous person, she was a longtime supporter of the Disabled American Veterans charity. 

Predeceased by her husband and siblings, Gertrude was the loving mother of William M. Connolly and his wife Kathleen, and Paul Connolly and his wife Karen. “Nana” to grandchildren Jennifer Connolly and her husband Stephen Miley, William J. Connolly, Nicole Connolly, and Lauren Connolly and “Nana-Nana” to great-grandchildren Laurel Miley and newborn Connor Miley, she leaves behind dear friends Marjorie O’Connor and Joan Murray. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday from 9:30 AM-10:30AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 11 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
