Geraldine F. “Gerry” Donohue(Casey), 94, of Hingham, formerly of Centerville, MA and Branford, CT, died peacefully on Dec. 19, 2023 with her family at her side. Daughter of the late Mary (Sennott) and John B. Casey of West Roxbury. Gerry was the beloved wife of Joseph F. Donohue for 53 yrs who predeceased her in 2012. Loving mother to Mary Donohue Wood (Randy) of Marlborough, Joseph F. Donohue, Jr. (Eileen) of Mashpee, Katie McBrien of Mashpee, and Charles Donohue (Rain) of Reno, NV. Sister of the late Thomas, John B., and Paul Casey. Devoted grandmother to her seven grandchildren.
Gerry was a graduate of Roslindale High School, The University of St. Joseph, class of 1950 and went on to complete her Master’s and CAGS degree at Southern Connecticut State University. Gerry had a lengthy career in education which began in the public schools of West Haven, CT and concluded with most of her years in Branford, CT, teaching first grade, retiring as an Instructional Reading Specialist and trainer for the district. Gerry was responsible for bringing the Academic Decathlon to the state of CT. She was a proud member of the retired CT Teachers Association.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thurs. Dec. 28th, 4-7pm, Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. off of Central St., Hingham. Funeral Mass, Friday, Dec. 29th at The Church of the Resurrection, 1057 Main St., Hingham at 10 AM.
Private burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gerry may be made to the Casey Fund at The School for Young Children c/o: University of St. Joseph, Office of Institutional Advancement, 1678 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117
