O’Connell, Gerald W. “Okie” of Quincy April 11, 2007. Beloved husband of the late Henrietta M. (McIntyre) O’Connell. Devoted father of Kevin G. O’Connell and his wife Mary of Quincy, Kathleen and her husband Ronald Blair of Medford, Michael O’Connell and his wife Noreen of Quincy, and William O’Connell and his wife Joanne of Quincy. Cherished grandfather of Brendan, James M., Terrence M., Mollie A., Abigail A., and Taylor M. O’Connell all of Quincy. Loving brother of the late Doris Illingworth. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON, Monday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Sunday 3 – 7 PM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gerald W. O’Connell may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation of Massachusetts, One Bulfinch Place, 2nd Floor Boston, MA 02114. “Okie” resided in Quincy for over 50 years. Formerly of Dorchester, he graduated from Boston Trade School and then served in the U.S. Navy in 1945 during WWII. Gerald was a 42 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electricial Workers (IBEW) Local 103. He was employeed by James Sugden Co. in Boston for many of those years, retiring in 1977. Throughout the 1980’s and 90’s after retiring, he started the company Century Marine Surveyors in Quincy and was also a Constable in Quincy for 20 years. Gerald was a lifetime member of the Squantum Yacht Club and the Savin Hill Yacht Club, and was a past Commodore of the Savin Hill Yacht Club. Gerald was a DAV and Secretary for the Massachusetts Harbormasters Association. “Okie” loved boating, storytelling and playing the banjo. Most of all, Gerald loved his family and loved spoiling and spending time with his grandchildren.
