Chartier, Gerald P. of Squantum, died on Saturday, August 29, 2009 after a brief illness. Beloved husband of the late Priscilla M.(King)Chartier. Son of the late Louis J. Chartier and Alda (Brusseau)Chartier. Devoted father of Donna Quinn and her husband Dennis of Plymouth, Marcia Chartier – Lombard and her husband Jack of Squantum, Mark Chartier and his wife Julie of Brockton,David Chartier and his wife Lauren of Kingston and the late Susan Chartier. Brother of Albert Chartier of Gardner and the late Ben Chartier. Loving grandfather of 9 grandchildren. Mr. Chartier was born in Chicopee and was raised in Gardner. Gerald met his wife Priscilla in Gardner at a pick-up football game. He tossed her the ball, she caught it and that was the beginning of a lifelong love. They married on April 1, 1945, had five children and made their home in Squantum where they lived for the pase 64 years. Gerald was employed by the Patriot Ledger in Quincy, working as a printer for 40 years before retiring in 1987. Gerald also owned and operated his own printing company in Quincy for 25 years. Gerald was a true gentleman who will be remembered for his gentle nature and patient kind ways. He was a devoted husband , father and grandfather who thoroughly enjoyed camping trips, annual summer family vacations at Sebago Lake, weekly K of C golf games, building a boat with his sons and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Gerald was proud of being a submariner during WWII on the USS Rock, USS Silversides and USS Mero. In his later years he discovered the pleasure of ocean kayaking; he took his last paddle one month before he died. Gerald was very active in the Quincy Sr. Olympics and was a member of the American Legion in Squantum. Gerald was a true model of what a husband and father can be. He will be missed by all who knew him. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Wednesday 4 – 8 pm. in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, WOLLASTON. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 :15AM on Thursday, September 03, 2009 prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, North Quincy. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of Gerald may be made to The Special Olympics of MA, P.O. Box 303, Hawthorne, MA, 01937 .
