Doherty, George V. of Quincy August 6, 2005. Husband of Margaret M. (Bruce). Father of George B. of Concord, Matthew E. of Dedham, Joanne R. Doherty of Memphis, TN, and Elizabeth A. Doherty of Dover, NH. Brother of Eileen M. Doherty of Quincy, Josephine A. Robinson of FL, and the late Vincent R. Doherty. Also survived by 5 grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St. , WOLLASTON Wednesday at 9AM. Funeral Mass in Saint John’s Church,Quincy at 10 AM. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8. Burial in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Bridgewater. Donations in memory of George may be made to American Diabetes Association Greater Boston Chapter 330 Congress Street Boston, MA 02210-1216. George was known as the “Tinkerer” to his family, whether it was the car, the lawnmower or any small appliance he could always be found fixing something. His favorite magazine was Popular Mechanics and applied many of its principles in his own home. He would take on plumbing, electrical, woodworking projects and had the ability to problem solve them all. He enjoyed reading, model trains, computers, eating out, traveling and most of all driving of which he did as often as possible especially to visit his daughters out of state. He loved his grandchildren and could often be found sitting off in his chair holding one or more of them. He graduated from Boston College High School in 1952 and went on to serve in the Navy during the Korean conflict. While in the Navy he completed the Aviation Electronics Technician School. He attended Northeastern University and worked for 42 years at the Raytheon Company as an electrical engineer.
