Yezukevich, George M. of Weymouth, passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 8, 2023. He was 81 years old.
Born in 1941 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Bennie and Mary (Puidokas) Yezukevich. He was predeceased by his dear wife of 59 years, Mary Anne (True) Yezukevich. He is survived by his children Mary Wright of Falmouth, Michael Yezukevich of Quincy, Ellen (Al) of Canton, David (Sheryl) of Weymouth, and Peter (Beth) of Orono ME. He was the elder brother of Joseph Yezukevich (Mary Ann) of Brockton. He is also survived by his much-loved grandchildren Malcolm, Viktor, Julia, Hazel, his loving cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased his dear granddaughter Angelica.
Raised in Brockton’s Lithuanian Village, his parents owned The Home Cafe where his love of cooking for his family began. He was able to throw anything together and make it delicious. When he’d receive compliments he’d proudly state “I’m the son of a Pizza Man.” He then worked for the Howard Johnson plant in Brockton where Mr. Johnson himself would visit, requesting a sample of the ice cream he was making. He’d nervously watch until Mr. Johnson would smile at what he tasted!
In 1964 George married the love of his life, Mary Anne, whom he met on their first day at Boston College. From then on they were inseparable. They lived in Wollaston, settling in South Weymouth raising five children. George always kept BC in his heart, cheering on the Eagles as a season ticketholder along with Mary Anne.
In 1963, he joined the wonderful faculty at Quincy High School where he spent 37 years teaching Spanish and becoming Assistant Principal. He met his pal Hank there, who says they would play battling soldiers in the hallways. The students got a kick out of them. He also taught evenings at Bridgewater State College and worked summers renovating houses with fellow teachers to budget family getaways to Cape Cod.
Also spent countless summers on Humarock Beach where his parents owned a cottage.
George developed a love for freshwater fishing at a young age, and could be found on the ponds of the South Shore in his skiff waiting patiently for a bite. He also dabbled in writing, and a childhood fishing story was published in On The Water magazine.
George had a wonderful sense of humor, filling conversations with laughter with his family, and in particular his dear brother Joe. You always knew when he was on the phone with him! He had a love of quoting movies in character voices, which his children quickly picked up. He enjoyed going to Pavarotti, Sinatra and jazz concerts, and countless fun excursions with Mary Anne and their dear friends.
George was a devout Catholic, and was a Eucharistic minister at St. Francis Xavier in South Weymouth. He said the Rosary every day. His deep love and devotion to his family was unfailing no matter what obstacle he encountered. He will be sorely missed, but there is comfort in knowing he and his dear Mary Anne will be together again.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday 2-5 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial in Calvary Cemetery – Brockton.
