George William Jackson, Sr., 91, of Braintree, MA, passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on July 13, 1933, in Boston, MA, George was the beloved son of the late Eleanor Gerrish of Marshfield, MA. He was raised in Mission Hill, Roxbury, and remained deeply proud of his roots there throughout his life. George was also a proud United States Army Veteran, serving his country during the Korean War.
George enjoyed a long and fulfilling career, working at Boston Edison for 42 years and later at McDonald-Keohane Funeral Home for 30 years. Known for his tireless work ethic, dedication, and exceptional storytelling abilities, he left a lasting impression on his colleagues and community. George also found joy in traveling to Pompano Beach and The Villages, FL, where he created lasting memories with family and friends.
A lifelong lover of baseball, George shared his passion by coaching Braintree Youth Baseball, inspiring young players with his knowledge and enthusiasm. George was an avid athlete and could often be found exercising—especially on his trusty treadmill. Sundays, however, were reserved for family, friends, and his motto to "eat, drink, and be merry."
George is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Mary Lou (Capaviella) Jackson, and his loving children: George W. Jackson, Jr., and his wife Amy Jackson of Bridgewater, MA, and their children Madeleine, Maxwell, and William; and Renee Jackson and her wife Jamie Nuwer of Dover, NH. He was also the proud grandfather of Kristin Howley and Kimberly Howley of Whitman, MA, and a new great-grandfather to Collin Anderson and Wesley Anderson of Whitman, MA. George’s family also includes his brother, Kenneth Gerrish and wife Barbara of Hobe Sound, Florida, and his adopted daughter, Susan Bartlett of Quincy, MA.
He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Marjorie Jackson; his cherished daughters, Linda Jackson Howley and Valerie Ann Jackson; and his dear sister, Irene Fitzgerald.
George’s legacy of kindness, humor, storytelling, and resilience will be remembered by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 4-8 PM at Keohane Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, Weymouth. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10 AM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 11 AM.
