George F. Winters, Jr.

George F. Winters Jr. of Quincy, died unexpectedly on October 2, 2019. George was the son of the late Bud and Ellie (Hegerich) Winters. Father of Michael and David Winters, both of Quincy; Jenni Doucette, of Nahant; and Courtney Winters, of Salem. Cherished Grandfather “Papa” of Shea Winters. Brother of Ken Winters and his wife Francine of Plymouth; and Chuck Winters and his wife Debbie of NH. George is also survived by his nieces, Kim Kane and Jill Polin; as well as many friends.

George received his Bachelors degree from Bridgewater State College. He worked at Delta Airlines for many years, before eventually taking a position at Massport.  In his early years, George really enjoyed gymnastics and was always known to be a very talented athlete. However, more important than the athletic achievements was the friendships that George made through gymnastics.  Many of these friendships have now lasted over 50 years.  But that’s what was so special about George, If you were his friend, you were a friend for life.  He just always had this unique ability to bond with anyone and everyone.  George loved making people feel special and important.  In doing so, he would often lean on his playful charisma to win you over.  George loved spending most of his time laughing, joking around, and of course, playing endless pranks (many of which might be at your expense.)  But humor aside, George was always known for being extremely selfless and someone that would do anything for the people he cared about most.  In his later years, George really enjoyed playing backgammon, cards, gardening, watching sports, hanging with his dog Mak, golfing, traveling, cooking and making occasional trips to the casino.  Yet, above all, the most important thing in George’s life was spending time with his grandson, Shea.  He cherished every second he spent with him and had often regarded their relationship as one of the best things to ever happen to him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday, Oct. 15 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Wednesday, Oct. 16 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM.

In Lieu of flowers, we are asking that a donation be made to the South Shore YMCA.  The Quincy YMCA was a very special place for George, for those who would like to make a donation in his name please consider a donation to the Quincy YMCA, 79 Coddington St. Quincy, MA 02169.

Burial will be private.
