George F. White

White, George F. of Quincy, died peacefully February 28, 2014.

George’s life centered around his family, work, and the community of Quincy, which he loved.  He was born in Quincy, graduated from Quincy High School in 1947, and served his country in Korea with the Army from 1951-1953.  He later spent a career with the newspaper that he delivered as a teenager, The Quincy Patriot Ledger, retiring after many years as the Retail Sales Director.  He adored his wife, Dot, and they raised four children together.  They spent many happy winters in Florida, where he could relax and enjoy his family.  George was the longtime Chairman of the Quincy Christmas Festival Committee, which was a job he loved, so much so that he marched in every parade dressed as a character to see the children’s smiling faces.  He was honored twice as Grand Marshall of the parade in thanks for his tireless efforts.  He was also the Quincy Sun 2006 Citizen of the Year, a member of the Quincy Flag Day Parade Committee, a life member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks, Quincy Center Business and Professional Association and the South Shore Chamber of Commerce.  He will be remembered for his kindness, ambition, and true love of people.

Beloved husband of the late Mary “Dottie” Shea.  Loving father of Ronald White of Duxbury, Karen White of Quincy, Maureen Verity of FL, and the late Donna Bourikas.  Brother of Donald White of Milton and the late William White. Grampy to Nathan, Taylor, and Tyler.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews.  George now resides in the hearts of his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
