George E. “Skip” Lane, Jr.

George  E. , Jr. “Skip”  Lane of Norwell, formerly of Weymouth, passed away suddenly at home, June 5, 2016.

Beloved husband of the late Rita (Gaughen) Lane. Son of the late George E. and Rita M. Lane, Sr.  Loving father of George E. Lane, III & wife Elaine of Bridgewater, Robert A. “Drew” Lane & wife Martha of Kingston, Maura E. Lane Warner & husband Daniel of Grafton, Daniel P. Lane & wife Rebekah of Kingston, and Michael J. Lane & wife  Erica of Weymouth. Devoted grandfather of Thomas, Molly, Andrew, Daniel and Ian. Dear brother of the late Rosemary Lane. 

George was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Class of 1957 who continued his studies at Cheshire Academy, earned his Bachelor Degree from University of Notre Dame in 1962, and completed his studies of Law at New England School of Law (formerly Portia School of Law) in 1970.  Skip was a successful practicing attorney in Weymouth for over 47 years.  He was a former Town of Weymouth City Solicitor of 25 years as well as the Past President of Massachusetts Municipal Lawyers Association.  George proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. George was very experienced in the law, particularly local government law, and always willing to share his knowledge with his colleagues.  He treasured the many friendships he had with his friends, colleagues, and clients.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Washington Street Cemetery, Norwell.
