Sherman, George E., 80, of Hingham, former owner of Sherman Bros. Heating Co., Inc of Weymouth for 50 years which he co-founded with his late brother John F. Sherman in 1949, died at home Friday, January 26, 2007, after a short illness. Husband of Marion T. (Vaillancourt) Sherman of Hingham. Father of Susan E. Hiltz of Hingham, Donna J. Dockendorff of Pembroke, Nancy M. Watts of Norwell, Janet E. Newton of FL, and Carol T. Lincoln of Hingham. Brother of Mildred Wendt of Merrimac, Ruth Dowling of Hingham and the late John F. and Charles A. Sherman. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham, Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours Tuesday 3-7 PM. Burial in Village Cemetery, Weymouth. Mr. Sherman was born and raised in Hingham and attended Hingham Schools. He left Hingham High School in 1944 to enlist in the U.S. Navy where he served on the Destroyer Escort, U.S.S. Rinehart in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of War during World War II, until his return home in 1946. He was very proud of his war service in the Navy and several years ago was awarded his class of 1945 High School Diploma at the Veterans Day celebration at Hingham Town Hall. Mr. Sherman was an avid golfer and a long time member of the South Shore Country Club and Rockland Golf Club. He was a member of the Mayflower Society, the Weymouth Elks, the Veteran of Foreign Wars, and the Weymouth Eagles. Donations in memory of Mr. Sherman may be made to Alzheimers Assn., MA Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
