Collins, Geoffrey J. of Hingham, formerly Jamaica Plain, was born in Knockawinna, County Kerry, Ireland and died February 27, 2016, surrounded by his family.
Beloved husband of the late Mary Theresa (Flannery) Collins. Son of the late William and Mary (O’Donoghue) Collins. Predeceased by 7 siblings. Cherished father of William M. Collins and his wife Nancy (Scituate, MA), John J. Collins and his wife Beth (Hudson, NH), Mary R. Collins (San Diego, CA) and Paula A. Collins-Brait (Boston, MA). Loving grandfather to 6 and great-grandfather to 1. Also survived by many nieces and nephews in the states and abroad.
An Army Veteran of the Korean War, upon returning stateside, he made a successful career in the commercial baking industry until his retirement. A devout Catholic, Geoffrey was the epitome of living one’s faith. He will forever be remembered lovingly as the ultimate personification of spousal and fatherly devotion, patience, generosity, good humor and sacrifice. He leaves his family with countless memories of fun-filled gatherings and car trips throughout New England. An avid fan of Boston sports, he shared his love of the games with his family and was a loyal supporter at their home and away games. Geoffrey was extremely well read and self taught on a variety of subjects, and imbued his children with a similar love of reading and lifelong learning. A true gentleman, his kindness and selflessness inspired all who came to know him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 9:30 AM-10:30AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Following the Visitation will be a Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 11 AM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
