WEYMOUTH – Gasper Tringale, age 95, a longtime North Weymouth resident and WWII veteran, died peacefully on August 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved husband of over 70 years to Alice Wade Tringale and devoted father to his five children, Gasper Tringale and his wife Susan White of NYC, Nora Dawn Tringale of Weymouth, Stephen Tringale and his wife Kathleen of Orleans, Linda DiAngelo and her husband Robert of Weymouth, and Sandra Varrasso and her husband Michael of Weymouth.  Gasper is predeceased by his parents Santo and Nora Tringale, his sisters Rose Zizzo, Lucy Calabrese, Anna Tringale, Carmilla Castagnozzi, Sally Diciccio and Marie Troyan. “Nanu” is survived by his adoring grandchildren, Lisa DiAngelo, Rob DiAngelo, Seth Tringale, Andrea Varrasso, Max Tringale, Marissa Varrasso, Gasper Tringale-White and Sabrina Varrasso along with many cherished nieces and nephews family and friends. 

Born in Boston’s West End, Gasper spent his early years raising homing pigeons and playing baseball with his friends. He excelled at math and physics and graduated from The English High School of Boston in 1940. Gasper was accepted to the Chemical Warfare Service program at MIT but instead, chose to serve his country by joining the Navy in January of 1943. Gasper served on the USS Oakland and took part in many major battles in the Pacific theater during WWII. He was awarded Campaign, Victory, Occupation, and Service medals in addition to six battle stars. Upon his return, Gasper wed Alice, who was the true love of his life and together, raised their five children. Gasper was employed at Prince Produce Packing where he soon became a partner and worked for over 40 years.  A nurturing husband and father, Gasper took great pride in his family. He was a caring and dedicated grandfather who encouraged his grandchildren and delighted in their accomplishments.  Gasper enjoyed spending time in his beautiful back yard, growing roses of all varieties and hitting golf balls.  An avid golfer, he scored many holes in one, loved sports and cheering on the New England teams, especially passionate about the Boston Red Sox. Gasper will always be remembered for his great wisdom, sage advice, generous love and kind heart. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday, August 19, from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Monday, August 20, prior to the funeral Mass at St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM.  Burial will follow in The Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.
