Gary Chung of Boston, died peacefully in his home on December 20, 2021.
He was the loving husband of the late Kelly Chung, and the devoted father to Sara Chung as well as Dylan Chung and his wife Amanda. He was the cherished son of the late Thomas and Jennie Semler and a caring brother to Nancy Chung-Welch, Susan Chung-Campos, and Brian Semler.
Gary was a Registered Nurse/EMT for 35 years on the Critical Care Transport Team at Boston Children’s Hospital. He paved the way for other men in the nursing field and had a tremendous impact on the BCH community. He devoted his life to caring for those who were unable to care for themselves. As a result, his dedication and contributions have saved people’s lives and mended families across the world.
Gary enjoyed being outdoors, traveling, and eating good food. He enjoyed listening to good music, whether that was live at Jazz Fest, or in the comfort of his own home.
He never met a joke he couldn’t steal; and he was never wrong, except for the one time he thought he was wrong, but it turns out he was actually right.
His children were the product of his life’s work, and everything he did, he did for them. He will be greatly missed by his children and all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Gary did not wish to be mourned through a wake or funeral service. Instead, he wanted to be celebrated and remembered as the fun, energetic, and caring man we all knew him as. Further details on a memorial will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gary may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, 401 Park Drive, Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215, or to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave #2, Norwood, MA 02062 or directly to his family
