DeGrazia, Gaetano (“Guy”) Tommaso (“Tom”) Peter of Quincy, formerly of Milton, died August 17, 2013.
Mr. DeGrazia’s life involved two distinct and important passions; his family and the military. He was always one to offer encouragement to anyone who he encountered and was considered the “Ambassador of Goodwill.” He also found great joy entertaining others with his singing talents. A United States Veteran of WWII, he served in the Navy from 1942-1945. In the years that followed he served on the City of Quincy Human Rights Commission, and became involved in many organizations to support veterans including the DAV Quincy Cavanaugh Chapter 79; serving as Commander in 2001-2002, National Order of Trench Rats (N.O.T.R), Morrisette American Legion Post #294, and Past Senior Silver Haired Legislator for Commonwealth of MA Veterans Administration. A highlight of his life was being able to take the Honor Flight New England in 2010 to the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. in recognition of his service during WWII. He attended Roxbury Memorial High School. On November 7, 1999, as part of Operation Recognition, Guy received an Honorary High School diploma given to WWII veterans who, more than half a century ago, left high school to fight in the war. A 34 year employee of General Electric, he retired as a tool & die maker in 1981. He has also held a real estate license since 1962.
Beloved husband of the late Nancy (Serino) DeGrazia. Loving father of Cam DeGrazia and his late wife Phyllis of Holbrook, Stephen DeGrazia and his wife Dorothy of Holbrook, and Loretta T. DeGrazia of Quincy. Papa to DeAnna and her husband Chris, Andrew, Anthony and his wife Courtney, Joseph, Gina and her wife Amanda DeGrazia-Saylor, and Miguel. Great grandfather of Desiree, Dominic and John. He was pre-deceased by 8 brothers and sisters. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
