Marcantonio, G.Edward “Gus” of Quincy and Winter Haven, Florida, died on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at the age of 91.The beloved husband of the late Mary (Lynch) Marcantonio. Son of the late Louis & Dora Marcantonio. Cherished father of Catherine Gallagher of Easton & Winter Haven, FL, Patricia Griffin of Quincy, Jean Bunton of Pembroke and Joan Duffy of Brighton and the late Paul Marcantonio. Brother of the late Margaret Marcantonio. Loving grandfather of James & Mark Gallagher, Michael, Melissa & Marcantonio Griffin, Jennifer (Bunton) Forgit, Jaime (Bunton) Moe , Caitlin, Kevin & Daniel Duffy and 5 great grandchildren. Gus grew up in East Boston. He served in the United States Army from 1943 until 1945 receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, while serving as a medic. A graduated of Suffolk University Class of 1954, his work history includes more than 30 years with the Food & Drug Administration as well as a radiology technician at the V.A. Hospital and then later at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Gus has been a resident in Quincy for 45 years and enjoyed his time spent in Winter Haven, Florida. He is a member of the NARFE, national assoc. for retired federal employees. He will be remembered as a devoted family man will be sadly missed by all who know him. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St. Quincy , Thursday at 8:30 AM . Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church, Wollaston at 10 AM. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Visitation will be prior to the mass on Thursday morning only.
