Frederick Wade Koopman

Frederick Wade Koopman slipped into eternity on February 9, 2023 in Scituate, Massachusetts. He was born in Boston to Millard Koopman and Eleanor Wade. He grew up in Weymouth where he loved being on the water, boating and fishing. He was a talented craftsman and boat builder. He built a wooden kayak when he was 17 and a wooden peapod at 22 which are still in use today. He graduated from Weymouth High School in 1948. He became an airman in the naval reserve at Squantum Airbase. He joined his father in steel fabrication at New England Steel Tank Company in Quincy, where he later became president and worked for many years. He designed and built the steel top peak on the old Custom House in Boston and his family took great pride in his work being part of the Boston skyline. He helped to design and build the Minots’s Ledge Light replica in Cohasset. He was great at restoring houses and doing all of the work himself as he had the ability to fix just about anything. He enjoyed gardening and beekeeping and always had a lovely organic garden wherever he lived, growing fruits and vegetables and beautiful trees and flowers. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He was great at bringing humor to defuse a tense situation. He loved animals and had an amazing ability to help wild animals in distress. He loved to fish and became a commercial fisherman while living in Haines, Alaska, where he formed some very special friendships. He had a generous heart and was willing to help anyone who needed a helping hand with his finances, skilled labor and kind words.

He married his high school sweetheart, Jean M Blenus on March 10, 1951 and they had 45 years together. They enjoyed making a loving, Christ filled home and raising their five children before Jean was called home to heaven. He was blessed to find love again and is survived by his wife, Doris J Darnell Call Rice who he married on April 26, 1997. They lived in Wichita Falls, Texas and had 26 years together traveling, dancing  and getting together with friends and family.
