Frederick J. Herzig Jr.

Frederick J. Herzig, Jr., age 78, of Hingham passed away peacefully on May 3, 2018.

Survived by his wife of 51 years Sarah “Sally” A. (Tosney) Herzig, his daughter Kathleen “Katie” Herzig, Ph.D. and her husband Calvin O. Anderson, his sister Barbara and her husband Bob SanClemente and several nieces and nephews.

Fred graduated from Arlington High School and Northeastern University. He studied engineering and worked as a purchasing agent in electronics. An avid bibliophile, he belonged to the Ticknor Society and was often seen gregariously discussing the best way to acquire a certain rare book with his local reference librarian. Fred was a longtime amateur “ham” radio aficionado and enjoyed bird watching on Cape Cod.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fred’s memory to the Hingham Public Library, 66 Leavitt Street, Hingham, MA 02043.
