Fred E. Zumbahlen

Zumbahlen, Fred E. of Weymouth, died June 28, 2022 at the age of 97.

Fred was the beloved husband for over 70 years to the late Mary Beatrice (Casna) Zumbahlen. He was the loving father of Janeece Zumbahlen of Weymouth, the late Freddy Zumbahlen, and the late Gary Zumbahlen and his wife Susan of Norwood. Cherished “Grampa” of Mark Zumbahlen and his wife Stephanie of FL, Kara Zumbahlen of Norwood, and great grandchildren Jayden and Logan. Dear brother of Bob Zumbahlen of FL, Billy Zumbahlen of OH, the late Roger Zumbahlen, the late Charlie Zumbahlen, and the late Betty Tuck. Also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.

Fred was raised and educated in Middletown and Cincinnati, Ohio. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1945. While in the service he was stationed in Paris Island, SC and was also assigned to the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hingham. He fought in Saipan in the Mariana Island Chain where he was wounded. He received a Purple Heart which was presented to him by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was then sent to San Diego California where he finished his service. After receiving a degree from Boston University for Hotel Management, Fred enjoyed a 50 year long career in the hospitality industry, working at hotels and restaurants in the Boston area, including the Sheraton Boston, the Park Plaza and the Red Coach Grill in Newton. He enjoyed vacationing in Cape Cod, NH and FL and also enjoyed bus trips with the Weymouth Senior Center. Fred was a lifelong member of the Weymouth Elks, recently celebrating 50 years.
