Frank J. Drogo Sr., of Braintree, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at the age of 90.
He was the son of the late Salvatore and Angelina Drogo. Frank was predeceased by his devoted wife of 57 years, Ellen Marie Drogo. He is survived by his three loving children; Donna Richardi and husband Michael, Mary Ficociello and husband Steven and Frank J. Drogo Jr. and his long-time partner Lori McConnell. He is also survived by his six loving grandchildren; Angela (Casey), Michael, Frankie (Kaylee), Gina (Jeff), Daniel, Francesca (James) and his ten cherished great grandchildren. He leaves behind his sister Roseann Astrauskas and her husband Fred. His in-laws Ann and Vic Shannon, Edward and Beverly Kirby and Joan Kirby. He was the caring brother of the late John and Rita Drogo, Joe and Bobbie Drogo and Mary and Leroy Fernald. He was the caring brother in-law of the late Edwina Kirby, Maureen Tippett (Bill) and Kate Daly (surviving husband Jim). Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Frank enlisted in the Navy in 1951 as a young 17-year-old man. He trained to be part of the Underwater Demolition Team (UDT), known then as a frogman. This elite unit would go on to become the Navy Seals. For over 50 years, he dedicated his life to serving Disabled American Veterans. While working with the DAV, Frank held the positions of Commander of Chapter 29 in Braintree, State Commander of the DAV in Massachusetts as well as other local, state and national positions.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday January 9th from 4 PM-8 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 809 Main St. South Weymouth (Rte. 18 opposite South Shore Hospital).
We will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday January 10th at 8:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Clare’s Church, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree at 10 AM. Burial to follow in the Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree.
Donations in Frank’s name can be made to St. Jude Hospital for Children.
