Frank A. Gendreau

Gendreau, Frank  A. of Quincy, formerly of Dorchester, died January 26, 2017.

Frank was a dedicated family man, extremely loyal friend and inspirational boss.  He was happiest surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren & new great-grandson, who had dubbed him “Super G”.  He was proud of his Dorchester & Boston roots (having graduated from Commerce High School) and very much enjoyed rooting for the Bruins & Patriots.  He maintained many close relationships from his youth through the monthly luncheons with the Dorchester Wildcats.  The water was also a constant passion in his life as he had joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1951 and had since spent most of his lifetime on the water.  Being an avid boater, scuba diver & fisherman he was a lifetime member at the Port Norfolk Yacht Club.  Frank loved the beach – he was a lifelong summer resident of Hough’s Neck in Quincy and a 20+ year winter resident of Key Colony Beach in Marathon, FL.

Frank was the 3rd generation owner of the family jewelry business, Frank A. Gendreau Jewelers, a business started in Boston in 1911.  The family later moved to Quincy in 1991 and is currently doing business as Joyce & Gendreau Jewelers, where Frank was usually found “checking in on his watch bench”.

Beloved husband of the late Anne M. (Balboni) Gendreau.  Loving father of Frank Gendreau, Jr. and his wife Marianne of Billerica, David Gendreau and his wife Mary Jane of Quincy, and Denise Reynolds and her husband Christopher of Quincy.  Dear brother of the late Esta Wall.  Cherished grandfather of Michelle and her husband Ryan Walsh, Rachel, Lauren and Michael Gendreau and Alyssa Reynolds and great-grandfather to Francis Walsh.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston.
