Francis X. “Frank” Quirk

Francis “Frank” X. Quirk (92) died peacefully in his home on Friday, January 25, 2019 surrounded by his wife, Louise, six children, their spouses and his grandchildren.

Born in Boston, MA on July 17, 1926 to Thomas and Mary Quirk, he lived in South Boston – “Southie” for 38 years. He is pre-deceased by his siblings Thomas, Joseph, Mary (Furlong), Vincent, John (Jack), Alfred, Paul and his grandson Jared Quirk. He graduated from high school in Boston then enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17.

Frank met Louise Mullins, also from South Boston in 1952 on Cape Cod; they were married on Louise’s birthday, July 28, in 1956. They lived in Southie until 1963 when they moved to Scituate MA with the first four of their six children where they lived for 55 years before their recent move to Quincy.

Frank worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for nearly his entire career. A fierce Democrat, he was also instrumental in the campaigns of Robert Kennedy (Presidential), Ted Kennedy, Ted Buczko and Joseph DeNucci. He loved to tell stories from the campaign trail. Perhaps the most interesting stories revolved around his work on campaigns for both Robert and Ted Kennedy.

His most cherished title however was Papa – with nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, he filled his retirement years attending sporting events, dance recitals, birthday parties, apple picking and babysitting every moment that he could. There wasn’t a location too far away or a day too cold that would keep him away from these events. He loved to brag about each one of the grandkids / great grandkids accomplishments and offer each of them some post game “coaching”.

Frank is survived by his wife Louise, son Frank and his wife Alison of Boston, and their children Erin, Brendan and Emmanuel; son Jack of Woburn; son Michael and his wife Regina of Rockland and their son Ryan; daughter Mary Lou (Meagher) of Whitman and her children Stephanie, Sean, Kevin and her grandchildren Chelsea and Zoey; daughter Lisa (Nichols) and her husband Brian of Cohasset and their daughters Riley and Casey; Gerard (Jerry) and his wife Dr. Jessica Sutherland of Rye, NH.
