Francis William “Bill” Barter, of Quincy, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 27, 2020. He was 83.
Born in Boston, he was raised in Dorchester and was the son of the late Leo and Margaret (Kerr) Barter and attended local schools. Bill worked in facilities maintenance at Quincy Hospital for 16 years. Prior to Quincy Hospital, Bill owned and operated a Texaco gas and service station in Quincy for many years. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed working around his house, working on cars and building things with his hands.
Bill was the beloved husband of the late Janet F. (O’Leary) Barter, who died in 1992. The two married on May 14, 1960 at St. Ann’s Church in Quincy. Together they shared 32 years of loving marriage. He was the devoted father of the late Susan F. (Barter) Coscia and her surviving husband Paul of Hyde Park, William F. Barter and his wife Elaine of Quincy, Michael F. Barter and his wife Kristina of Milton and Daniel F. Barter and his wife Cynthia of Weymouth. Bill was the loving grandfather to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the dear brother of Leo Barter and his wife Sandra of Rhode Island and many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his devoted friend, Frank Threlfall of Quincy.
