Francis W. “Shorty” Donovan

Donovan, Francis W. “Shorty” a lifelong resident of Quincy, died March 12, 2015. 

A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp, Shorty served on Iwo Jima during WWII where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He also served as Staff Sargent during the Korean War. Shorty coached youth sports in Quincy for many years and enjoyed singing, golfing, swimming and spending fun times with friends and family. He worked as a supervisor for the United States Coast Guard for many years before his retirement. Shorty will be sadly missed by his family, but they are grateful for all the blessings he brought into their lives.

The beloved husband of 67 years to Patricia A. (McClelland) Donovan. Loving father of Karen Picarski and her husband Paul of Quincy, Maureen Donovan of Winthrop, Patricia Porreca and her husband Ron of Needham, Kevin Donovan and his wife Sharon of Pembroke, Ronald Donovan of Winthrop, Francis Donovan and his wife Carol of Scituate, Katie Donovan of Weymouth, and the late Michael Donovan. Father in law of Kathy Donovan of Scituate and Brother in law of Mary Congdon of Quincy. He is loved by 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Shorty is predeceased by 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.  Donations in memory of Shorty may be made to Vietnam Veterans of Mass,  27 Beacon St., State House, Room 546-2, Boston, MA 02133.
