Francis J. “Frank” Monahan

Francis J. “Frank” Monahan of Weymouth, formerly of Mission Hill and Dorchester, died September 11, 2016 at the age of 80.

Frank proudly served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. He worked as an accountant for many years. A longtime member of the K of C, Frank also volunteered at the Whipple Center in Weymouth where he organized many group trips to Foxwoods. He was also on the Board of Directors for the Weymouth Elder Services. A member of the Boston Police Athletic League, he was instrumental in starting the first street hockey league in Dorchester at Wainwright Park. Frank also volunteered at Harbor House in Hingham.

Son of the late Mary and Andrew Monahan. He was the beloved husband of Mary E. (McLaughlin) Monahan. Loving father of Francis “Jude” Monahan and wife Susan of Weymouth and Michael “Mickey” Monahan and wife Julie of Quincy. Devoted grandfather of  Brendan, Daniel, Shayley and Michaela. Brother of Andrew of Marshfield, James of Dorchester, Paul of FL, Robert of Norwell, Kevin of FL, the late Richard, and the late Mary Farrow. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial will be private at MA National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers and in Frank’s memory, please be kind to and support our veterans.
