Francis J. Doyle, Jr.

Mr. Francis J. Doyle,  Jr. of Weymouth, died peacefully July 11, 2023. 

Born in Boston, MA on August 27, 1925, he was a son of the late Francis J. and Eileen A. (Littlefield) Doyle. In 1943, he graduated from English High School in Boston after his junior year in exchange for enlisting in the US Navy in World War II, as many in his generation did.  He served in the Pacific Theater  on the USS Haraden (DD585). After participating in the invasions of the Marshall and Marianas Islands and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the ship was badly damaged by a Kamikaze attack. Frank, a sonarman, narrowly survived the attack when the aircraft (and its 500lb bomb),trailing smoke, missed hitting the bridge and exploded amidships. After repairs, the ship returned to battle and later received a total  of five Battle Stars for wartime service. He also enlisted in the Army Reserves from 1949-1952 attaining the rank of sergeant

Frank was employed for many years for the Hingham Public Schools. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing the trumpet, working with computers, and was also proud that he received his private pilot’s license. Frank also enjoyed going to Plymouth to his cottage on White Island Pond.

Beloved husband of the late Mary T. (Garrity) Doyle. Loving father of the late Francis J. Doyle III, Patricia A. Goodwin and her husband, William of Weymouth and Robert M. Doyle of Quincy. Brother in law of Paul Garrity of Hingham. Grandfather of William, Jonathan, and Benjamin. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, July 20th from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Friday, July 21st  prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. 

Burial in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
