Ellard, Francis I. “Frank” of Quincy, formerly of Norwood, age 90, passed away January 29, 2013.
Beloved husband of the late Grace. M. (Ferrera) and devoted husband of Lucinda Morrissey-Ellard of Quincy. Loving father of Mary Leonard and her husband Bert of NH, Thomas Ellard and his wife Kathleen of Norwood, Veronica DiMarzio and her husband Ed of Abington, Laurie Alley of Walpole, Jean Ellard of Quincy, and Joyce Sheehan and her husband Joseph of Walpole. Stepfather of Richard Morrissey and his wife Mary Ann of Braintree, Cindy Morrissey and her husband Greg Disotell of CA, Brian Morrissey and his wife Bessie of Hingham, and Diane Campo and her husband Anthony of Milton. Brother of Mary Pyne of Chatham, and the late Eleanor Trainor, John, Edward and George Ellard. Grandfather of Leah, Renee, Courtney, Tommy, Nick, Eddie, Dina, Marc, Frank, Veronica, Joe, Grace, and Dani. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Born to Edward and Mary Ellard in Roxbury, MA, Frank joined the army as a teenager and served as a sergeant in the European Theatre during World War II, earning a Bronze Star for bravery. He returned to the states and lived in Boston, Norwood and Quincy, working as a Boston Police Officer and then as a bank courier. He was active in his communities, serving as a former Commander of the American Legion William G. Walsh Post in Dorchester, and as a member of the Boston Police Department Emerald Society, the VFW and the Norwood Elks. Frank was devoted to his family and friends and cherished the times spent surrounded by his family at a table laden with fine food and drink. Frank leaves behind a treasure chest of memories and a legacy of love and laughter for all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-5 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Frank may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
