Mr. Francis A. Galewski, of Weymouth, passed away on May 11, 2018.
Born in Chelsea, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a corpsman on the USS Tranquility, and assisted in the rescue of survivors of the USS Indianapolis. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he worked at Fore River Shipyard/General Dynamics and then as an appliance technician at General Electric for 20 years. A devout parishioner of St. Jerome’s, Francis was an avid gardener and enjoyed breeding canaries. He was most proud of his beautiful family and enjoyed spending time with them. Francis will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Beloved husband of 66 years to Kathleen J. (McCarthy). Loving father of Kathleen Galewski of Brockton, Marie Sheehan of Whitman, Gerard Galewski of Weymouth, Stephen Galewski and his wife, Janice, of Abington, Teresa Hachey of Hanson, and Paul Galewski and his wife, Liz, of Bridgewater. Brother of Mary DiNallo of Chelsea, Alice Galewski of Lynn, and the late Wanda Winn, Lottie Rowen, Jennie Carbone, Helen Sikora, Chester and Alfons Galewski. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square).
Family and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Joseph Indian School, 1301 N. Main Street, Chamberlain, SD, 57325 or to My Brother’s Keeper, P.O. Box, 338 Easton, MA 02356.
