Francis “Frank” W. Tierney

On January 2, 2018 surrounded by his family, Francis William Tierney peacefully passed away into the Lord’s hands.

He was born on June 17,1936 in Randolph, MA, to Edmond and Elizabeth (Condon) Tierney. The youngest of four children, Frank loved to learn and was an avid reader. He was educated at Archbishop Williams High School, Curry College, and received his Masters in Education at Boston University, before making Hingham, MA  his home. For over 32 years, “Mr Tierney” educated the Hingham youth, both in the middle school and high school.  Known as a great literature teacher and National Honor Society Advisor, Mr Tierney also acted as a great High School class advisor for three decades at Hingham High. His dedication to the Hingham community spanned not only to the youth, but also to his peers by becoming the President of the Hingham Teachers Association and serving as President on Plymouth County Teachers Board as well. He represented the Hingham educators at the National Education Association meeting for many years at its National Convention before retiring in 1992.  Frank loved to be surrounded by his family and enjoyed traveling on many cruise ships up and down the Caribbean. His favorite past times was soaking in the rays with a good book, while listening  to New England sports on a radio by a pool.

Frank will be dearly missed and will long be remembered for his dedication to his family, friends and his students.  Frank is survived by his loving wife Patricia (King) Tierney of 53 years, their daughter, Michaela Tierney of Charlotte, NC, her daughter, Caitlin Elizabeth and many sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded to heaven by his parents, two brothers, Jimmy and Bobby Tierney, his sister, Mary and her husband Allan Montgomery.  A wake will be held Saturday, January 6th from 2 – 4pm at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home in Hingham, followed immediately by a prayer service at 4. Burial will be private.
