Francis C. “Fran” Lyons, Jr., of Hull and formerly of Newton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 71.
Born in Boston, he was raised in Newton and was the son of the late Francis C. and Helen (Cushing) Lyons. He attended local schools and graduated from Newton High School with the Class of 1965. Fran continued his education at Newton Junior College.
On November 27, 1967, Fran enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the National Defense Medal and was stationed in Germany. Fran was honorably discharged on September 18, 1970.
Following his time in the service, Fran worked in the HVAC industry as a manager with Riello Heating and Plumbing. He enjoyed his work and the relationships he built over the years. Fran happily retired in 2012.
In his spare time, Fran enjoyed going to Foxwoods, watching sports on television and boating with his brother in Hull. Fran was an avid Boston sports fan and was passionate about the Red Sox and New England Patriots. Every year he made sure to attend Spring training. Fran was also a member of the Newton Elks.
The most important part of Fran’s life was his family. He loved his nieces more than anything. Fran treasured the time he spent with family and friends.
Fran was a caring, loving and supportive person. His legacy of life lessons and fond memories continue through his family and friends. He will be missed by all the lives he touched.
Fran was the loving brother of Thomas C. Lyons and his wife Marie of Dedham and Florida, and the late Elizabeth M. Lyons. He was the devoted uncle of Elizabeth M. Lyons and her husband Levi Thill of Vermont, and Jaclyn J. Lyons of Florida. The devoted great uncle of Alyssa Lyons of Florida, Zia and Juniper Lyons, both of Vermont.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday, January 14th from 3 through 6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
His funeral service will be celebrated on Monday evening at 6 PM in Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy.
Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Francis may be made to a charity of your choice.
