Francis Andrew “Fran” Cady (Ret. BFD District Chief) of Weymouth, formerly of South Boston and Dorchester, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family October 6, 2016.  Beloved husband of 36 years to Josephine “Joyce” (Malfa) Cady of Weymouth and the late Margaret “Peg” K. Cady. Loving father of Paul A. Cady and his wife Christine Bowditch of PA, Patricia A. Cady of Allston, Joseph M. Cady and his wife Amanda Nelson of NY.  Dear brother of the late Mary E. Craig, Joseph M., Edward T. and Thomas F. Cady. Loving brother-in-law of Antoinette “Toni” Malfa of S. Weymouth and Rose Anne Malfa, MD of CT.  Cherished grandfather of Zephyr Cady and his wife Emma of NY, James J, and Elle K. Cady. Fran is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Fran proudly served his country during WWII in the US Army as a Sergeant of the 13th Combat Engineers.  Working for the City of Boston Fire Department for over 42 years, Fran retired as a District Chief.  Fran was the recipient of the the Patrick J. Kennedy Medal of Honor Award for saving the life of a child in the line of duty December 25,1956. He was a devout Catholic and daily communicant at the Immaculate Conception Church in Weymouth. Fran was a member of the Castle Island Association and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, walking and living in his neighborhood enjoying the wonderful closeness of his helpful friends’ and neighbors’ support over the years. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 3-7PM  in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:00AM Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in St. Michael  Cemetery, Boston.

Thank you to all the doctors at the Carney and Milton Hospitals as well as the VNA and Hospice of the South Shore for giving such loving care to Fran. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fran’s memory to either VNA and Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Park Drive, Rockland, MA 02370 or The Marist Fathers of Boston, c/o The Lourdes Center, 698 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02215.
