Francesco S. "Skip" Lagrotteria of Rockland, and a former longtime resident of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, after he fought a long and courageous battle at Tufts Medical Center. Born on October 20, 1964, Skip's unwavering commitment to his loved ones defined his 60 years. Throughout all of the highs and lows of Skip’s life, you would never find him without his beautiful and contagious smile.
Skip's journey began in his hometown, where he grew up and later graduated from Weymouth South High School. He found his calling in the world of property management and construction development, dedicating 35 years to FalconI Companies and an additional 5 years to Beacon Communities.
A devoted family man, Skip was the beloved husband of 31 years to Kelly A. (Gosselin) Lagrotteria of Rockland. Together, they built a life filled with love, happiness, and laughter. He was the loving father of Gina and Joseph Lagrotteria, both of Rockland, who will carry forward his spirit of strength, kindness, and generosity. He always taught them family first. Skip's role as a father extended beyond his own children, touching the lives of many as a baseball coach, Cub Scout leader, and active member of Weymouth Youth Football.
Skip's love for his family was matched only by his love for his siblings. He was the dear brother of Bonnie Smith and her late husband Dick of New Bern, NC, and Scott Lagrotteria and his wife Bonnie Bottcher of Wolfboro, NH. His bond with his in-laws was equally strong, as he was a cherished brother-in-law to Lynne Puopolo and her husband John of Plymouth, Stephen Gosselin and his wife Carin of Norwell, and Christine Tedeschi of Whitman. He was also the loving uncle to several nieces and nephews. All his cousins also meant the world to him, as they were more like his brothers and sisters to him. Skip was predeceased by his parents, Barbara and Francesco Lagrotteria.
Skip's passions were as varied as they were heartfelt. An avid collector of baseball cards, he found joy in the simple pleasure of adding a new card to his collection. His love for the outdoors was evident in his meticulous yard work. Skip's dogs, Penny and Maddie, were his faithful companions, and he fondly remembered his late dog, Sunni, who was a treasured member of the family. You would frequently find him taking his precious dogs to the dog park and for long walks on the beach.
A special thanks, with love and gratitude, goes out to the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff in the Cardiology Units at Tufts Medical Center who cared for him deeply over his year-long hospital stay. They went above and beyond for him. We also have so much appreciation for all the members of The HeartBrothers Foundation.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Friday, February 7, 2025, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 11 AM. Burial in Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset. In loving memory of Skip, please consider a donation in his name to The Heart Brothers Foundation at https://www.heartbrothers.org
