Frances R. “Fran” Monahan

Monahan, Frances R. “Fran” of Quincy, passed away August 27, 2011. Beloved wife of 54 years to William E. “Bill” Monahan. Loving mother of Margaret “ Peggy” Monahan Bielski and her husband, Peter, of Dover, William J. Monahan and his wife, Christine, of Burnsville, MN, Robert F. Monahan and his wife, Bonnie of Rye, NH, and Michael P. Monahan and his wife, Wendy, of Colchester, VT. Sister of the late Margaret Lilley. Also survived by her 11 cherished grandchildren. Fran was born in Boston, and lived many years in South Boston, before moving to Quincy 53 years ago. Fran was a Registered Nurse for 50 years in the Quincy, Boston, and Milton area and retired as a Director of Nursing. She was a graduate of the first class of Catherine Laboure School of Nursing. At the age of 68, Fran received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, and was also the recipient of the “ Manning Certificate” in Gerontology from the same University and at the time of graduation, she was inducted into the National Honor Society. She was also a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, St. Mary of the Portiuncula, a Pastoral Care Assistant at Quincy Medical Center, and a Eucharistic Minister at Quincy Medical Center, Pastoral Care Office. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, traveling, and took much enjoyment spending time with her grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
