Flora “Trudy” Gertrude (McDougall) McLaughlin of Needham, MA, was born in Boston, MA on November 3, 1944 and died peacefully Saturday July 17, 2021 at the age of 76 from complications of Alzheimers.
Much loved daughter of the late Claire J. Parenti (Powers) and step-father Leo J. Parenti. Loving sister of Michael McDougall and his wife Fran, Peter McDougall and his wife Linda, Claire Corry and her husband John, and Jim Parenti and his wife Michelle. Wicked Best mother of Douglas McLaughlin and his wife Susan Troiano McLaughlin, Suzanne McLaughlin and her husband Martin Spielmann, Sarah McLaughlin and Jennifer McLaughlin. She was predeceased by her son David McLaughlin. Trudy is also survived by her grandchildren, Casey, Erin, Claire, Ryan, Joseph, Peter and Anna, as well as honorary-granddaughter Allison. She is also survived by many loving family members and friends, including her former husband William McLaughlin.
Trudy grew up in Dorchester and Hingham. She devoted her life to her family and friends and to serving others, particularly through her life-long career in nursing. She was a proud graduate of the Mass General School of Nursing. She found joy in most things, humor in much, and always expressed a sense of gratitude and wonder for the life she enjoyed. She was a caregiver to patients, her family and to her children’s friends. She loved reading, Scrabble, dancing, and sharing in her grandchildren’s lives; she saw the world clearly but kindly. She made friends everywhere she went and will be dearly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Globe Santa, the Greater Boston Food Bank, or any organization that supports children and families. In Trudy’s memory, please reach out with an act of kindness to family, friends or someone you don’t know at all, and enjoy ice cream for dinner tonight.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Thursday from 4-6:30 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., HINGHAM.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
